I was born in Invercargill, New Zealand. I have three brothers: Isaac, Tim, and Simon. We were raised by my wonderful, hippy parents who would take us on trips around the country in a big blue bus we called Herbie. The theme of travel continued through my youth as we moved all over New Zealand from top to bottom and back again. This inspired me to become a Trip Leader.

New Zealand is, in almost all respects, a very young nation and we are developing a true and unique identity formed by all arrivals—from the Maori to Old World settlers and new waves of people from Asia and the Pacific that continue to redefine the country.

It’s fantastic to travel around your own homeland and share what, who, and where you love. Mrs. Clark's Café, for instance, is a 19th-century bakery on the South Island that I love to bring travelers to. The owners have turned it into a café that supports and engages the local community. The whole café is just happy and everybody is friendly—it’s a place where everyone knows your name. I also recommend Waiheke on the Hauraki Gulf to travelers. Here, you can sample fine wines from a plethora of world class wineries, visit one of the olive oil farms, or engage with the Island’s healthy arts community. Every single person I have met through O.A.T. wants to really learn about and delve into what it is to be and live as a New Zealander.
